Benefits
Grant-in-Aid to MI:
- A token grant-in-aid of ₹3,00,000/- per MBI. Hence a maximum ₹30,00,000/- can be sanctioned to an MI for conducting activities under the Margdarshan Scheme for 10 MBIs altogether.
Honorarium & TA to Experts:
- Suitable honorarium (₹3,000/- per day) and travel allowances (AC 2-tier/Chair Car by train, or taxi at prevailing rates) to serving/retired academicians as internal experts of MIs; honorarium to MI staff limited to 4% of the overall grant. Local support (lodging, boarding, secretarial support, office, utilities) provided by the host MBI during expert visits.
Activities for MBIs:
- Workshops on accreditation and SWOT analysis, FDPs on infrastructure project generation, research/consultancy workshops, curriculum modifications, institutional reforms, quality improvement (student learning, employability, faculty productivity), and NIRF-ranking workshops.
Eligibility
- For Margdarshan/Mentor Institute (MI):
- The university/institute/college should be approved by AICTE (approval not mandatory for Central Funded Institutions where applicable). AICTE-approved MIs must have accreditation valid for at least 6 months from proposal submission. Institutions with other programmes (Management, Hotel Management, etc.) must have accreditation valid for at least 6 months. Institutes running only diploma courses can apply with at least four accredited diploma courses (valid at least 6 months).
- For Mentee Beneficiary Institute (MBI):
- Only AICTE approved institutes are eligible to receive mentoring. They must never have been enrolled as MIs by AICTE, never been mapped as an MBI with any other MI, and none of their programs should have been accredited in the past ten years.

The following endorsing checklist should be enclosed in the Application cum Detailed Project Report:

How to apply

An institute seeking MI status will be required to forward an application signed by the head of the institute along with the detailed project report (DPR).

Verify that every page of the application form has the signature and stamp of the Head of Institute.

Attach all the essential documents along with the filled application form.

Ensure all information is correct and then send the application form with all essential documents to the concerned address mentioned in the circular released by AICTE from time to time.
